The 2020 HWPA Derby will be held on Monday 7 December at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
Details of ticket prices will be announced later in the Summer
Once again, tables for 10, 12 and 14 guests can be booked and there are a limited number of 16-seater tables. Tickets can also be book individually and for part-tables.
Booking requests should be emailed to hwpacontacts@gmail.com Tables are not confirmed until full payment has been received.
With your booking please supply:

- e-mail address
- phone number.
If you require an invoice, please provide the full company name and address that complies with your purchasing procedures. We will supply a form to allow you book a pre-lunch hospitality table and extra drink for your table directly with the Royal Lancaster Hotel.
53rd HWPA Derby Awards

The 2019 Horserace Writers & Photographers Derby Awards were presented at the HWPA’s annual lunch last year held at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel on Monday 2 December.
The 2020 Derby Awards will be held on Monday 7 December. Watch this space for details
(TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN AWARD ENTRANTS MUST BE CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE HWPA)
Journalists can submit entries for two categories:
- HORSERACE WRITER OF THE YEAR
Entrants should submit three pieces of work. They can be feature articles, commentaries, investigations or considered material - REPORTER OF THE YEAR
Entrants should submit three pieces of work. These could include news stories or reportsi which has been work written to a deadline. - EMERGING TALENT
A new award in 2109 open to HWPA members under the age of 30 that will recognise the new generation of talent in the racing media. Entrants can be from written, photographic or broadcast. It could also include work like blogs or social media related material - SPECIALIST WRITER
A second new award for 2019 to recognise more technical work which does not get recognised as easily in the Racing Writer category. This could be analytical work, tipping or work relating to the bloodstock arena. All Entrants should submit three pieces of work. Your entry should be clearly marked with name, contact number and which category is being entered Entries should be emailed in pdf form to hwpacontacts@gmail.com
Photographers can enter two categories
- PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
- PICTURE OF THE YEAR
Standard darkroom techniques only to be applied to images.Images must have been taken between October 8 2018 & October 6 2019 inclusive.
No images shot on video and then made into a still image can be entered.
Please size the images to 3000 pixels on the longest side, and saved at 10 in Photoshop.
Image file names can be anything as they will be changed when received.
If you would like them viewed in a particular order then please number them 1-6 within the file name.
All images are to be sent via ‘We Transfer’ to crowhurst.alan@gmail.com
‘We Transfer’ will send an email to Alan when images have be sent. It will also send an email to the sender when the images have been downloaded by Alan.
