Wi-fi Watch

We have some much appreciated good news of two of our smaller tracks finally upgrading their press room wi-fi.

Two reasons to celebrate on September 24 – not only is it the HWPA membership secretary’s birthday but also the day that a new wi-fi system will be up and running at Ripon. Those who have worked at the course in the last couple of years will know that all the old set-up could be relied upon for was its unreliability and it has been practically unusable at recent meetings.
However, a consultant has been in and recommended the installation of a new phone line for the press room and a wi-fi system dedicated for our sole use.
Clerk of the course James Hutchinson assures us that it will be set up and ready to go for the final meeting of the year on September 24 – though he warns that the system will never be perfect as broadband speeds in Ripon generally are still quite slow.

In the south it seems that smoke signals are no longer necessary from Folkestone now that the Kent track appears to have a tariff-busting first-class wi-fi system, or at least one that is more than adequate for normal purposes.

We at the HWPA extend our gratitude to both venues.
